DEADLY DAYS 1.0 OUT NOW

Crashed shuttle

How to unlock the Astronaut

Choose the dedicated canyon map marked with a space-shuttle icon: official update 0.17 guarantees the shuttle there. Stay in its defence circle until the bar fills. Community guides advise a normal run before the first boss.

Three maps, one circle

The Astronaut has been on the roster since early access launched on 22 Sep 2025. The unlock is a map event, not an achievement counter and not a code. The English guide, the German guide, and the wiki agree on the geography: The Canyon, The Mountains, or The Snowy Peaks. A shuttle is sitting in the open. You interact, then you have to remain in the marked circle while the defence bar fills. Walking off resets the work. Those guides describe random appearances near 30 percent. Update 0.17 later added a dedicated canyon map with a space-shuttle icon and explicitly guarantees the spawn there. Prefer that marked map; the older percentage does not describe it.

Endless is the failure case players keep repeating, same as Death, except the timing is different. For the shuttle, the advice is to finish the defence before the first boss of the run. I am not merging that with Death's day-8 bus rule. They are different clocks. If the bar fills and you still die on the map, the guides do not promise a retry on the same shuttle. Plan the defence with the weapon you already trust.

The suit is armor that slows you down

Once unlocked, the starting item is the Spacesuit. The early-access wiki lists +3 armor and a base +1.9 percent crit chance per armor point, rising by 0.1 percent per player level; it is not a 1.0 stat sheet. Each armor point negates one hit. Each armor point also cuts movement speed by 3 percent. Armor comes back at the start of the next day. That is a stand-and-shoot character. A dash build, which is the Surfer's whole identity, fights this suit. I would not put the Astronaut on a shoe-and-spring layout.

Version 1.0 repaired the crit-per-armor ranks. The notes say rank 1 had been 10 percent and ranks 2 and 3 did nothing. After the patch the bonus is 3 percent per armor per rank. The 1.0 modifier values take precedence over older guide descriptions of those ranks. The starting weapon is a pistol, which is also true of Survivor, Bananaperson, and President Knabe, so I am not treating the pistol as the reason to pick this character. The suit is the reason.

Questions

Which biome has the shuttle?

Canyon, Mountains, or Snowy Peaks. Fields is the pumpkin map. The coast biome from 0.22 is not in the shuttle list.

Did 1.0 change the Astronaut?

The unlock steps did not change in the 1.0 notes. The crit-per-armor ranks did: ranks 2 and 3 now add 3 percent per armor instead of adding nothing.
