Local and Remote Play
Co-op in Roadtrip
There is no online matchmaking. Roadtrip has two-player couch co-op since update 0.22, plus Steam Remote Play Together, so the guest does not need to own the game. One of you needs a controller.
Updated

Remote Play, from the developer guide
- Player 1 needs a stable connection.
- At least one controller is plugged in.
- Player 1 launches the game and invites Player 2 from the friends list (Ctrl+Shift).
- Player 2 accepts.
- In game, Esc, then Add Player. Player 2 pushes the stick to the right.
- Go to the bus and start the run.
The same guide says each player picks one item from the airdrop in turn. Rerolls, scrap, experience, and the warehouse are shared. Player 1 may use a controller while Player 2 uses a keyboard. The guest does not buy a copy. That ownership line is repeated in the 1.0 notes.
What 0.22 and 1.0 changed
Update 0.22 on 31 Aug 2026 added local co-op and called it a beta that would stay in beta until 1.0. The same update added the coast biome. Version 1.0 on 29 Oct 2026 calls co-op finished. The notes add links across the two backpacks, one extra column each player can unlock, cells that may sit next to each other across bags, and an end-of-run split per player.

| Pixelsplit co-op guide | Two players, one of them on a controller |
| Xbox store tags | Xbox local co-op (2-4) |
| PlayStation 5 product page | 1–2 players |

The 2019 game's Steam page is single-player. If a search asks whether Deadly Days is online, the answer depends on which game. Roadtrip is local and Remote Play. It is not a matchmaking lobby.

Questions
Is Deadly Days: Roadtrip online?
Not as matchmaking. Two players can share a couch or a Steam Remote Play session.
Does my friend need to buy it?
The developer guide and the 1.0 notes say the guest does not need to own the game.
Can four people play on Xbox?
The Xbox page tags local co-op as 2-4. The PC guide only describes two. I am not merging those into one number.
