Extra hands
What the robot arm does
Each robot arm adds hands for equipping weapons, on top of the two you start with. The block is a diagonal strip of four cells. How many hands each rarity adds is not published.

Hands are not cells
The wiki calls it a powerup, footprint 4 by 1 on the diagonal, effect 'additional hands' when equipping weapons. You find it in loot, the shop, or while scavenging. Nobody crafts it. Two arms can be merged into a higher rarity, which a Reddit reply states outright: you can combine these two arms. A second post shows two arms plus a barbell as a working mess of weapons. I take that as proof the arms stack, not as a ranked build.
GameTruth's beginner note separates hand capacity from backpack space. The arm does not create cells. A minigun still needs its L-shaped four cells and two hands. The arm is what lets a third weapon pay the hand cost after the pistol and the minigun have spent the defaults. If the grid is full, another arm does not help. That is the repeater's job, moving links off the weapon. I keep those problems apart.
The missing number
The wiki literally says the arm counts as X additional hands. Epic through mythic art exists. No table maps rarity to a hand total. I am leaving X empty. A video title that promises 'plus four hands' without a patch note is not enough for me to print four. Legendary and mythic tiers are documented as existing. Their hand values are not.

Survivor starts with six free cells and no character item, which is the friendliest grid for a first arm. Death's scythe already eats eight cells, so an arm on Death is a luxury you may not have room to place. I would buy the arm on a gun character before I buy it on a melee character whose signature item is already huge.

Questions
How many extra hands does one robot arm give?
The wiki does not say. It writes X and shows higher-rarity art. No official number is published.
Can I use two robot arms?
Yes. Players merge them, and a posted run used two arms with a barbell.
